Classes for the Future by Zach Willson

Our school has a lot of good classes, but they could add a few additional class options to give students a better selection than we have today. Currently, there are no technology classes to help students decide if technology is a career path they would be interested in pursuing. If our school were to add a technology class, they should go over the basics such as learning how to use Microsoft Office, and then the course could move into subjects such as graphic design and coding. Technology jobs are in very high demand right now, so something that small could go a long way in helping students pursue their career path in the future. I asked Matthew Stewart, a sophomore at Hanover Central, for his thoughts on this type of class, and he stated, “I believe that a class like this would be very beneficial at our school because technology jobs are in high demand right now, and it will help students get a head start.”

Robotics class by Dominic DeBartolo

Hanover Central does not offer enough classes. I feel this way along with my other classmates. There are plenty of classes that we would like to take, but Hanover does not offer them. One of my classmates, Jackson Foreman, a sophomore at Hanover Central, complained to me that our school should teach robotics class. Hanover offers plenty of other classes, but this class would be a great addition to our school and the students’ interests, especially since technology is expanding and it is a good way to encourage the students to learn their math and science studies in a more innovative way. This class would prepare students for the outside world and jobs after high school.  Technology is only expanding, and we are beginning to rely on it more and more.  Every day we use our computers but have no clue how they function. A class like robotics would shed light on this and expand our minds. Children will learn almost without knowing it. They will finally find it cool to learn their math because they’re making something and it gives them a reason to succeed.

Automotive Class by:Kyle Anderson

Have you or your parents ever had to deal with car problems such as breaks going out, needing an oil change, etc? Well, imagine if you could learn some of these skills in a high school class. Hanover Central would benefit from offering an auto garage in which a class can take place where students can learn the mechanics of a car and a car’s engine. Other local schools like Lake Central have an auto body class where they learn the basics of cars and learn how to repair them. This can be an awesome class to have because kids who have these skills can use them later on in life if they need a minor or even major repair to make on their car. In auto class locals donate a car to be worked on by the class. The students and teacher will find the problem with the vehicle and attempt to fix it as best as possible.  By taking auto body you can learn a lot about automobiles and how to repair them. Andrea Avila said “having an auto class can help kids with their own car problems.”

Bring Back Wood Shop by Ryan Breedlove

There are many classes I would want to have, but the one I would want to have the most would be wood shop. Hanover once had it, but then took it away. Wood shop would be a fun and excellent class to bring back again. It teaches the basics of building things, which would be helpful since the majority of the things in our world include wood. It would also be nice just to build your own little crafts of your own or just learning how to mock things up. Wood shop would teach the basics of building with hands on stuff, which will be very important in the long run for anyone wanting to into construction, carpentry, or craft making. “Wood shop would be nice because it’s a good accomplishment for any student while not being the same as any other classes,” says sophomore Jack Kuiper. The main reason I would want to see this class in our school is because its a good opportunity to try something different. I have heard from many students that if our school had brought back wood shop, they would definitely consider doing it. So let’s not only bring back wood shop for the first time, but make it a bigger and better class for our school.

Driver’s ed by Tyler fruehling

The class I would most like to see brought to Hanover Central is driver’s ed because student athletes have a limited schedule and cannot take driver’s ed outside of school. Due to practices and games as well as homework, some students do not have time other than school work and sports.  It would also make it cheaper on our parents to sign us up in school rather than looking for an out-of-school driving school.  Offering this class would also give students another incentive to do better in school, especially if there were a requirement to take driver’s ed in school.  For example, a student should be required to maintain a 2.3 GPA for a semester in order to qualify to take driver’s ed sophomore year and beyond.  Another stipulation would be that you can have no detentions or any other form of disciplinary reports or infractions for a whole semester as well. “Driver’s ed would be a good class to have because it would fit into schedules” Nicole Novorita.  I think bringing this class to our school would honestly make the kids in our school stay more focused on behaving and doing better in school in order to be able to take this program if it were offered at Hanover Central.

Brenden Bonner New Class Public Speaking

Public speaking should be offered at Hanover Central as it is something that almost every student struggles with, and it also is something every student will need in their future. Standing up in front of a class or any group of people can be terrifying. It is incredibly hard to adjust to that situation, and students will have the chance to do it every day in class. Public speaking class would open many doors for students because it gives them a chance to do something that they normally aren’t able to do. Sophomore Tyler Fruehling even said, “Presenting in front of an entire class scares the heck out of me.” If Tyler were practicing it every day, he definitely wouldn’t have the same fear. This would also transfer into some students’ lives even after high school for their jobs that they might find themselves in. The class will also encourage students to get out of their comfort zone and stand up in front of a class without being scared or worrying. A lot of classes can come across as blow off but this class definitely won’t be. This is why a Public Speaking class would be beneficial to any student who decides to take the class.

Drivers ed

Do you know what drivers ed is?Driver’s ed is a class that teaches teenagers who are about to get behind the wheel the basics of driving.  Have you ever thought about taking driver’s ed? Well, multiple people take driver’s ed on their own time, but it would be nice to fit it in a daily schedule by adding it to the list of choices available to take at Hanover Central. Taking driver’s ed at Hanover would be very beneficial for teaching students about safe and responsible driving.  Driver’s ed would be a very popular class, and many students would sign up because taking the course outside of school is a hassle. It’s a hassle because most people have sports that take up most of their time. For some people, driving comes naturally, while others need a little more assistance.

Coding and Advanced Coding By Xander Hernandez

Adding a coding class option in school can be very beneficial to students who are hoping to become video game designers in the near future. Learning how to create websites and possibly video games can be a very fun job to have. Although learning how to use websites like Unity may be difficult, it can be rewarding to those who want to take advantage of this.

One of my friends Aaron, wanted this class very badly. There was an opportunity for this class near the end of the first semester last year. He was told to get some paper and collect the names of the students who also wanted to take this class. Aaron later found out that this class was canceled for reasons that we have not been told of. He was very frustrated about this.

One of the most popular games going by the name Cuphead was made by using the website Unity and has been played by many hardcore gamers. This game is known to be very difficult and is not meant to be played by casual gamers. This game will put your patience, memory, timing, friendship, and skill to the test.

Marine Science at Hanover by Isabella Hathaway

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have more options for classes at Hanover? One class that would be refreshing to see on the roster would be Marine Science. Seventy percent of the surface of the planet is covered in ocean. Due to the immense diversity of life, the ocean not only provides us with food, it more importantly provides many biomedicines. Many of the items we use every day come from the ocean, so why not study it? Marine Science would be a great option for students because if students have previously taken biology and chemistry and are looking for another course beyond Earth Science, it would be a perfect choice. Some students may even be interested in pursuing marine biology at the college level, and having this option in high school could help them decide if that is what they want to pursue. A nearby school, Lake Central, even offers lab research done in Florida as part of their Marine Science course. Upon hearing about the idea, a fellow student, junior Ciera Baswell, responded by saying, “I would love to take that class. I feel that it could be very informative and interesting.” Ciera is just one of the many students who could benefit from the addition of this course.

Photography

Photography is a wonderful class that Hanover Central High School used to offer, but no longer do. It is a class I and many other students would really want to take. Going into freshman year and sophomore year, I really wanted to take photography, but the school never offered this class. You could learn about the different types of photography, how to properly use a camera, and the different tricks and tips of taking photos. Zach Willson said, “There should be a photography class to help students learn the basics of a camera and start to learn how to take better pictures. This can either lead to a hobby or a career path.” I know that many people in our school who do not play a sport or who are not in an activity, including myself, would really enjoy this class instead of a sport. Some students may have a real passion and or drive to do photography or something related as their career or hobby, and this would help them later in life while they are looking for a job or just something for them to do on the weekends when they are bored. This is why I think photography would be a wonderful class for Hanover Central.
