Marine Science at Hanover by Isabella Hathaway

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have more options for classes at Hanover? One class that would be refreshing to see on the roster would be Marine Science. Seventy percent of the surface of the planet is covered in ocean. Due to the immense diversity of life, the ocean not only provides us with food, it more importantly provides many biomedicines. Many of the items we use every day come from the ocean, so why not study it? Marine Science would be a great option for students because if students have previously taken biology and chemistry and are looking for another course beyond Earth Science, it would be a perfect choice. Some students may even be interested in pursuing marine biology at the college level, and having this option in high school could help them decide if that is what they want to pursue. A nearby school, Lake Central, even offers lab research done in Florida as part of their Marine Science course. Upon hearing about the idea, a fellow student, junior Ciera Baswell, responded by saying, “I would love to take that class. I feel that it could be very informative and interesting.” Ciera is just one of the many students who could benefit from the addition of this course.
